Background: From Reluctant Podcaster to Sponsored Show Host
Kevin Payne is no stranger to content creation. As a freelance writer and the creator of Family Money Adventure, Kevin helps families learn how to manage their money better—so they can afford the adventures they love.
For years, Kevin was hesitant to start a podcast. In his own words:
“I had a close friend with a podcast who invited me on early in my Family Money Adventure journey. I just wasn’t interested. I didn’t want to add another thing to my plate.”
But in 2023, that changed. Kevin saw the value of expanding his platform and deepening connection with his audience through spoken word. He decided to launch the Family Money Adventure Show as a natural extension of his brand.
That’s when he hired Podcast Abundance.
The Podcast Launch: Strategic Simplicity
Kevin and I met years earlier at FinCon, a conference for financial content creators. By January 2023, he was ready to go. We launched with a short, impactful trailer episode in March, followed by 19 biweekly episodes in Season 1.
🎯 The strategy:
-
Solo show format (minimizes production and scheduling headaches)
-
Biweekly release cadence (for sustainable consistency)
-
Seasonal planning (to avoid burnout)
-
Podcast Abundance support for editing, uploading, and publishing
Kevin handled the creative direction, episode titling, show notes, and blog embeds. My team and I handled:
-
Audio editing + engineering
-
Hosting platform file management
-
Publication scheduling + show maintenance
The Results: Growth, Impact, and a Disney Press Trip
Since launch, Kevin has:
-
Grown to 2,179 total podcast listens (June 2025)
-
Maintained consistent downloads: 305 in the last 30 days
-
Been invited on a sponsored press trip to Walt Disney World — with me joining as his on-site podcast producer
-
Released a Disney podcast-series containing his interviews with Plan Disney and WDW experts
“I’m so pleased with how the show has turned out. I wouldn’t be where I am without Virginia and her team.”
He’s created over 40 episodes across two seasons, showing the long-game of podcasting:
✅ Top episodes continue to grow months after publishing.
-
130 listens – How to Track Your Spending
-
105 listens – How to Start a Freelance Writing Business
-
100 listens – Financial Lessons from Taylor Swift
All three are from Season 1, proving that podcasting content ages well—and continues to perform with time.
Who Listens?
Kevin’s show is perfect for large families who want to maximize their budgets so they can travel well—without skimping on experience. His audience loves:
-
Practical budgeting advice
-
Reward travel tips
-
Personal finance made family-friendly
In Kevin’s Words
“It’s refreshing working with someone who understands your needs and simplifies the process so it doesn’t feel like work. Virginia knows what questions to ask and how to encourage me to push forward.”
